Regular backups are performed
on all our production based servers for emergency recovery. However if you delete a file
by mistake, you can recover it yourself using the salvage capability built into
the Windows Novell Client. *This only works on a Windows machine. File recovery instructions: 1.Double-click on My Computer and select the location that contained the file (probably your H: drive). 2.Right-click on the location. Select Salvage file. 3.A list of salvageable files will appear, sorted in chronological order by date. To sort by filename, click on the File Name heading. 4.Select the file to restore. Be careful to compare dates and file sizes. 5.Click Salvage File. If you already have a file by that name, you will be asked to rename the file. 6.Click Close. Note1: Files that are deleted through the process of a directory deletion can not be recovered in this manner. Note2: File purges are being done twice a month. These deleted files are purged occasionally in order to improve server performance, but realistically the files tend to be available for some time after you have actually deleted them. Our goal is to purge files at the end of each semester, however we may have to do file purges mid-semester if performance is being impacted. |
